Purchase and Install Stored Materials in Job Progress Billing

JB Progress Billing allows you to enter purchased materials to be billed and then later installed. This article explains the steps to accomplish each of these steps to update the Application for Payment report accordingly.

Follow these steps in order to show values in Column F (Materials Presently Stored) on the Continuation Sheet of the Application for Payment report and then move those values to the Work Completed, Column E:

Steps

Purchasing SM:

  1. Once you have created your bill, go to the Items SM/Tax tab.

  2. Enter the amount of Purchased Materials. The SM Retg % and Retg amount will default according to the retainage percent set up on the JC Contract Item.

This action will place the purchased amount in Column F (materials presently stored) on the Continuation Sheet of the Application for Payment report.

Installing SM:

  1. On a subsequent bill, enter the Installed amount. The Previous SM should contain the previous purchased amount and the Installed value should be equal to or less than this amount. The SM Retg will default as negative. Be sure that the SM Retainage percent is the same that was held on the original Purchase.

  2. Go to the Items tab and enter the Installed amount in the This Bill WC Amount field. This will update the Work Complete amount on the Application for Payment and place the amount in Column E (This Period in Place). *Note: If there is already regular work complete here on the Item, add the Installed materials amount to that so it's included.

NOTE: Without this step, in our example, the current due on the Application for Payment will be negative $1,800.
