Steps

  • In Job Billing, a Labor Cost's Labor Category is defined by it's craft/class combination. You can press F5 on the Labor Categories field to see which labor categories are set-up, you can create new ones as needed.
  • Another filter that the cost passes through is the Earn Type if you are restricting by Earn Type.
  • Any costs within this Labor Category with the Earn Type selected will be pulled into this Labor Rate as long as the cost matches the rest of the filters.
  • The third filter is the Factor.
  • Any costs within this Labor Category with the Factor selected will be pulled into this Labor Rate.
  • The last filter is the Shift. Any costs within this Labor Category with the Shift selected will be pulled into this Labor Rate. The Rate Option determines how the Labor Rate for this line is calculated.

There are three options of the Rate Option:

  1. C-Actual Costs – Use actual costs as posted to JC.
  2. R-Labor Rate– Use the labor rate specified in either the New Rate or Old Rate fields the rate used depends on the labor rate effective date.
  3. F-Earnings Factor– Use the earnings factor posted in JC multiplied by the rate specified in the next field.

The New and Old Rates are defined in the last two fields. The new rate will be used unless the date of the cost is before the Labor Rate Effective Date specified on the Info Tab.

Labor Rate Overrides

Sometimes the options provided for the Labor Rates are not specific enough. Labor Rate Overrides can be used to override the normal Labor Rates. If the cost meets any of the criteria of the LAbor Rate Override line, then it will be pulled into the Override.

The Labor Rate Overrides tab contains the same Earn Type, Factor, Shift, and Rate Option filters as the other tab. However, this tab also contains an Employee, Craft and Class filters. Any filters here will override the Labor Rates in the Labor Rates Tab

JB T&M Template Set-up Labor Rate Overrides

The first filter is the Employee. Any costs within this Labor Category with the Employee selected will be pulled into this Labor Rate.

The second filter is the Craft. Any costs within this Labor Category with the Craft selected will be pulled into this Labor Rate.

The last new filter is the Class. Any costs within this Labor Category with the Class selected will be pulled into this Labor Rate.

This sums up how to create Labor Rates on a T&M Template. The best thing to do to test these out is to initialize a bill to see how the costs are pulled in and billed. If things are not showing up as desired, you can change the template then delete and reinitialize the bill.

NOTE: To use labor rates on the bill, you will need to have the Rates tab checked in the Labor Rate Options section in the Info Tab.

NOTE: A cost cannot belong to two Labor Rates. If a cost belongs to two different Labor Rates, it will not pull into the bill and will show up on the JB Error List with the an error of: Multiple Categories Exist. You will need to adjust your labor rates so that this cost only belongs to one labor category.
