Switch to List View: Right click View -> List or View -> View -> List

Creating a new record: Enter (+) or (NEW) to assign the next available number in sequence.

Grid vs. Info tab: Grid view will allow you to create or display records/transactions in a list. View -> Filter Bar enabled allows for searching for items within the grid. Info tab is a view of the setup and fields necessary to create the record or transaction.
