To group these accounts together as retained earnings, enter the same number.
Income Statement Order:
Assign a unique number to income/expense accounts to assign the order that will be listed on the income statement.
For major categories that will be assigned to a liability or asset account, leave blank.
Subtotal Description:
Enter a description up to 60 characters to describe the major categories, this will be the group labels on the balance sheet and income statement.
Highlight Mode:
Gives you the option to highlight certain totals on your reports.
Creating a Minor Category:
When a GL Account is created it must also be assigned to a Major and Minor Category (This can cause your balance sheet to not balance if left unassigned). You can create the Minor category by selecting the Major category that the GL account will be assigned to and going to the Minor category tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the list to create a new entry
The typical naming function for Minor Categories is the company number (CO#), found on the bottom right hand corner of vista, then the GL account number.
In this window, you can also assign the balance sheet and income statement order by account.
To assign the GL account to a Major and Minor Category, go to General Ledger>Programs>GL Chart of Accounts
Select the Part # the GL account is assigned to and select the Instances tab
Find the GL account you are assigning,
Click into the Major Category field and press F4 to select
Click into the Minor Category field and press F4 in Minor Category to select
