[HR] What is the difference between HR Training and HR Skills?

Vista allows you to record both HR Training (including training classes) and HR Skills. While these functions are related, there are key differences between the two.

  • The HR Codes form includes various code types, such as Training Codes and Skill Codes.

  • HR Training is used to document the training an employee has completed.

  • HR Training Classes are used to formally schedule training sessions and document the training received.

    • Training classes can also include a Skill, allowing the training outcome to be recorded as a skill.

    • Skill codes from training classes can be added to the Skills Tab within the HR Training Classes form.

  • HR Skills can also be documented independently of training.

    • For example, an operator with prior Crane Operation experience can have this recorded as a skill upon hire.

    • Skills brought by the employee at hire can be added to the HR Resource Master separately from any training.

This approach ensures both formal training and pre-existing employee skills are accurately tracked within Vista.
